Monday morning?!

You'd never guess it was a Monday morning. Rowan class are on fire already!! Look at all their amazing problem solving in maths during registration!

Sophie's Rules!

In assembly this morning we were carrying on thinking about standing up for people. Dora and Pixie have  been reading Sophie's rules in Read, Write inc and they wanted to perform it with friends in front of the class. It is about a girl called Sophie, who is not very kind at all.

Letter from a nurse

I wonder what a nurse would have written in a letter home from Scutari hospital. Well just ask Maya! She did a brilliant bit of improvisation when she imagined she was reading out a letter that she had sent home from the Crimean War.

It was so convincing that Maya went to visit Miss Yates for a Headteacher credit. What a superstar!

Mary Seacole

This afternoon we have been learning all about Mary Seacole. We found out lots of information and realised she is very similar to Florence Nightingale. You can find out more by visiting our learning online blog.

Oliver's vegetables

Rowan Class have been doing some big thinking in maths this week, whilst trying to help Oliver plant his own vegetable garden.

We found out that Oliver's Grandad planted his vegetables in neat rows, so Oliver needed to do the same with his seeds.

Could Oliver's garden be as neat as Grandad's?

After we decided what Oliver should plant, we needed to decide how many rows he should have for each vegetable, and how many seeds in each row. Then we had to calculate how many seeds he would need altogether. We realised they looked just like arrays! Our garden designs were all going to be different, because we had different ideas about different vegetables.

3 seeds x 6 rows = 18 seeds

What else do we need in this garden?

I wonder what 2 x 20 will equal ...

BIG BIG thinking!

'5 x 3 = 15 seeds'

Digital leader stars!

This afternoon some of Rowan Class mini digital leaders have been to Cherry and Hazel Class to teach them how to use some early computing games, like Kodable, ALEX and Beebots. They showed them how to write some algorithms, then test them! Our reception children showed brilliant concentration!

Algorithm writers!

In maths today we were thinking about right angles, position and direction. We did some moving around in class, then went to the ICT suite to try some computing games that would help us learn to use our skills. We had to do lots of BIG thinking and it made our brains hurt!

Beebots!

Big thinking

Some of us wrote algorithms for Anna and Elsa to skate, using Frozen on hour of code. It made us really think! You can play here if you like.

Our digital leaders were really helpful, but even they had to do some BIG thinking! Sometimes their code didn't work, so they had to debug it.

Data interrogators are bar chart creators!

We used doodle buddy on the ipads to create our graphs and show which subjects are the most popular at school. Aren't we clever?!

Maths is fun!

Two brains are better than one!
