Cake Sale

What a fantastic success our cake sale has been! After lots of preparation from Miss BB's Read, Write inc group and then the rest of Rowan Class, with posters, cake making and final preparations, we finally got round to selling our cakes. We needed to raise £104 to sponsor a guide dog and we raised £175! Amazing! Thank you for your generosity in donating cakes, then coming back to buy them. Lots of you gave more for your cake than we asked for, which is why we managed to raise so much money. Thank you to our wonderful school community for supporting our sale - it is much appreciated!

Cool coders!

This afternoon we have been using Espresso coding. Our mini digital leaders have been leading the way and supporting their classmates to learn when necessary.

We have written algorithms, using blocks, to make things happen.

Rohan and Hayden thought it was awesome and really enjoyed creating their castles.

Two Evies showed how they could change backgrounds to make it more interesting.

Some of us used the iPads to use Espresso Coding.

Lewie created a super, multi-coloured castle as a background for his fairy tale characters.

There was super learning with added concentration, perseverance, excitement and enjoyment all the way round the ICT suite today!

A special visitor in class!

In read, write inc we have been learning all about guide dogs for the blind. We were very lucky to have Mrs McAllister come and talk to us, because she used to train guide dogs!

Mrs McAllister told us about all the things that a puppy needs training to do, so that they can look after their owners properly. They have to learn to use all sorts of transport so that they are not scared of noises.
We learned that guide dogs learn to go to the toilet on command, so that they don't go when their owner is out and about. The guide dogs also learn to eat their food when their owners blow their whistle.

We learned that all the puppies in one litter have the same initials. So Mrs McAllister trained Phil and all the other puppies would have had names starting with P too.

Mrs McAllister showed us all the obstacles that she needs to train the guide dogs to learn to move around. The trickiest object for a guide dog to learn about is a height object, like tree branches. The dog learns to be aware of height objects by looking above their own height level, so they protect their owner.

Mrs McAllister trains each dog for about 4-5months, before they go to their owner. She has trained about 50 dogs altogether! Wow! We think Mrs McAllister is A-MAZING!

Look out for some news soon about Rowan Class sponsoring a guide dog.

Natural art

We have had a lovely time this afternoon, learning outside. We gathered natural and interesting objects from around the school grounds, then went to the nest to use the tree stumps as our canvases. Look at some of the beautiful art work we have created!

Look at some of beautiful finished pieces. We will leave them to nature now and let them disperse naturally.
