Poor old Jacques!

Poor old Jaques! He's come all the way from France to work at DaRTS Parts, but he keeps getting in a muddle! He doesn't recognise all the coins, so he doesn't know whether customers are giving him the right money or not. 

The DaRTS team decided to help by making him some posters to go on the wall, showing the different combinations of coins for the different prices.

DaRTS researchers

After checking the lockers on the fire engine, the DaRTS team checked out some of the safety equipment, like the helmets and breathing apparatus. Next they looked at the ladders, water tank, cab size and hose. They have a pretty good idea what they need for their smaller fire engines! 

After checking out the ladders, we researched some of the equipment in the lockers on the other side of the fire engine.

 

Then we checked out the cab size...

before testing the hoses. 

 

Fire engine research team!

No wonder DaRTS team member James looks worried, we've had a complaint! It costs too much money to keep sending out the massive fire trucks for small rescues. We need to design more Eco-friendly ones that are smaller and use less fuel. The first job the design team had to do was check fir all the things that they would need on their new fire trucks. 

We remembered that we still need specialist clothing to stop the firefighters getting burnt, but they also need to remember stop, drop and roll if their clothes are on fire!

We looked carefully at all the equipment in the fire engine lockers and decided which ones we needed to have on our small fire trucks. We definitely needed hoses! 

Bolt croppers may come in handy too ...

Roving reporters

The observant reporters on the beach during the daring sea rescue have managed to make front page news! They used their notes very carefully and had taken some great colour photos too!

The Rescue Team

Today the eager reporters who were on the beach during that daring sea rescue were invited to a press conference with the rescue team. They had the opportunity to ask lots of questions - and asked some really pertinent ones! 

They explained how they received a 999 call from a young boy, then had to call the helicopter and lifeboat team to help out.  

The reporters asked them how they managed to rescue the elderly man and his grandson, and how long it took them. They found out that both man and grandson were ok, but had to go to hospital to be checked. 

The reporters quickly set to work after the press conference, to write their newspaper reports fro the front page! 

DaRTS

The Disaster and Rescue Transport Specialists were called to a special meeting today, because their new life boat was involved in a brilliant sea rescue. One of their helicopters was on hand too! An elderly gentleman and his grandson had got pulled out to sea on a dangerous current and the poor man panicked and started to feel very ill. When his grandson tried to help, he lost one of the oars! Luckily, the quick thinking lad found a mobile phone in his granddad's pockets and dialed 999.

It caused quite a commotion on the shore! Someone had noticed the boat quite far out and could only see a small child in it! They thought he was on his own!

Suddenly they heard the helicopter coming and then the Landrover pulled up, bringing the new lifeboat with it. 

There was much relief when they realised that child and his grandfather were being rescued.

We were able to hear the thoughts of the child and his grandfather and they told a big story. Their thought bubbles showed how anxious and worried they were to be stranded at sea.

The boy's little sister and her grandmother had stayed on the shore as she didn't want to go out in the boat. When they realised that the rest f their family were in trouble, they started to feel really worried. This was evident when we heard their thought bubbles.

A journalist was standing on the beach and he made notes in his notebook about what was happening. He thought it would make a great story! We will have to wait and see!
