Backwoods Billy Baxter
WPIT have had a bit of a dilemma. The team are very busy with looking after the many wildlife areas that we help to conserve, but a request has come in from a visiting wildlife expert. Backwoods Bill has been putting out his cameras in one of our wildlife areas, but has failed to get any footage. What on Earth are we doing wrong? Can we help him, even though we are very busy?
One of our camera crew, who used to work for the RSPB, could possibly help as he has caught lots of owls on camera before now.
The WPIT team have generously decided that they can give up some of their time to produce tips for Billy to help him have more success in the wild. They will send him their tips via email, video message or facetime if he can get wifi.
The Wildlife Protection and Investigation Team
The WPIT are really pleased that the barn owl cams which were put up by some of our team and volunteers from around the country have been very successful.

We were very pleased to see owlets and eggs in some of the boxes and have been keeping an eye on them, during the week. Our bird box and camera team are feeling very proud of themselves for getting the technology and the habitat right for these gorgeous creatures.

A surprising day!
Today has been very strange and surprising at school. We had an emergency assembly and learned that there was an unidentified object on the school field. It had been reported on the news on the radio and we heard lots of eye witness reports. What on Earth is it and where has it come from?
There were scorch marks and lots of debris where it had crash landed. We saw some strange objects and could hear a siren that sounded like an emergency siren.
We investigated the area for clues, then set to work trying to solve the mystery. Ask us all what we have been doing. It's been a very exciting day!

Letter from a nurse
I wonder what a nurse would have written in a letter home from Scutari hospital. Well just ask Maya! She did a brilliant bit of improvisation when she imagined she was reading out a letter that she had sent home from the Crimean War.

It was so convincing that Maya went to visit Miss Yates for a Headteacher credit. What a superstar!

Oliver's vegetables
Rowan Class have been doing some big thinking in maths this week, whilst trying to help Oliver plant his own vegetable garden.
We found out that Oliver's Grandad planted his vegetables in neat rows, so Oliver needed to do the same with his seeds.
Could Oliver's garden be as neat as Grandad's?
After we decided what Oliver should plant, we needed to decide how many rows he should have for each vegetable, and how many seeds in each row. Then we had to calculate how many seeds he would need altogether. We realised they looked just like arrays! Our garden designs were all going to be different, because we had different ideas about different vegetables.

3 seeds x 6 rows = 18 seeds |

What else do we need in this garden? |

I wonder what 2 x 20 will equal ... |

Drama in the classroom: Scutari hospital
We wondered what it was like for the soldiers and nurses in Scutari hospital. Conditions were very poor. Tell your family all about it Rowan class!
Wounded soldiers
Soldiers were not getting better because the hygiene was so poor in the hospital.
Many soldiers had lost their limbs in the battles.
The smell in the hospital was terrible.
The nurses were shocked at the poor conditions and set to work restoring order and cleanliness.
