Out and about, measuring

This morning we have been out and with a measuring challenge. We had to find it, prove it! 

Kandinsky maths

Today in maths we have been exploring the properties of 2d shapes using Kandinsky's art as an inspiration. 

Jake has used his iPad art as a background to his elephant poem.

Water investigations

We have been asking and answering lots of questions about capacity and volume this afternoon. 

We asked things like, 'Which holds the most water?' And 'How many lots of this container will it take to fill this one?'

We found out which containers held more (had a greater volume) and which had less capacity. 

Monday morning?!

You'd never guess it was a Monday morning. Rowan class are on fire already!! Look at all their amazing problem solving in maths during registration! 

Oliver's vegetables

Rowan Class have been doing some big thinking in maths this week, whilst trying to help Oliver plant his own vegetable garden. 

We found out that Oliver's Grandad planted his vegetables in neat rows, so Oliver needed to do the same with his seeds.

Could Oliver's garden be as neat as Grandad's? 

After we decided what Oliver should plant, we needed to decide how many rows he should have for each vegetable, and how many seeds in each row. Then we had to calculate how many seeds he would need altogether. We realised they looked just like arrays! Our garden designs were all going to be different, because we had different ideas about different vegetables.

3 seeds x 6 rows = 18 seeds

What else do we need in this garden?

Algorithm writers!

In maths today we were thinking about right angles, position and direction. We did some moving around in class, then went to the ICT suite to try some computing games that would help us learn to use our skills. We had to do lots of BIG thinking and it made our brains hurt!

Some of us wrote algorithms for Anna and Elsa to skate, using Frozen on hour of code. It made us really think! You can play here if you like.

 Our digital leaders were really helpful, but even they had to do some BIG thinking! Sometimes their code didn't work, so they had to debug it.
